Confinement

"Because of airline restrictions, women who are more than 36 weeks pregnant are not allowed to fly. As I don't fancy having a baby in Balikpapan, nor do I like the idea of travelling by Indonesian boat to Singapore, I've flown to Singapore for 'my confinement'.....

Apartment in Singapore Total have kindly provided me with an apartment, and as you can see, it really isn't too bad. There are no mice, no snakes, no cockroaches, and I have only seen one ant and one gecko. In fact, the only creepy crawlies around are Millie the Millipede, Bertie Butterfly, Charlie the Cricket and their friends - toys for PLC. What a difference from Balikpapan!

If you are worried that I may have been getting bored stuck on my own in Singapore - impossible. As you can see from the view from the balcony, all the big shopping malls are close at hand. Move your mouse over the picture to see just how close Marks & Spencers is - I could almost be back in Aberdeen (except for about 25 degrees celsius!) VIew of Singapore

I have spent much of the last four weeks shopping - Mothercare, HMV, IKEA, Robinsons to name a few. I now have nearly everything a baby could possibly need, as well as a few 'necessities' for me from British India (my favourite clothes shop). I have to confess that the credit card has taken a bit of a beating.... But now though, I can relax and enjoy the next few weeks, with Alex and my Mum."

"...Alex and Mum have arrived now, and have settled into the Singapore lifestyle of cappucino and croissants. Alex has had an operation on his knee to fix the cartilage and will show you his 'holiday snaps' on request. But don't worry - even after a week he is nearly back to normal fitness! Mum has got over the jetlag and the difference in temperature, and is now happy to shop-till-she-drops in all the department stores that Singapore has to offer.

We all visited Jurong Bird Park on Wednesday, and saw emus, pelicans, macaws, toucans, penguins, flamingos, eagles and hornbills...... but no storks. We will have to keep on waiting...!"

"After a textbook pregnancy, our precious little cargo, or should I now say Elizabeth, made her arrival on her due date - 19th March. Not that this stopped us from having a good time.....
